HAMILTON – On a brisk afternoon on Tyler's Field, the Colgate field hockey program hosted its Pediatric Cancer Awareness game when it welcomed Holy Cross for conference play. The Crusaders edged Colgate by a 4-0 marker, despite the push-back by the Raiders defensive corps in the second half.
The team wore gold laces in conjunction with Go4theGoal organization, and wore #EllaStrong shirts in recognition of 3-year-old Ella Ryan who has Type 2 Leukemia. The Ryans are a local family with ties to Colgate Athletics. For more information on the #EllaStrong events and Go4theGoal, click

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Raiders came out with a strong start against Holy Cross, but the Crusaders were able to push back with two goals in a 2:02 span midway through the half. Although the Raiders continued to pressure Holy Cross, the Crusaders rebutted with a goal just eight seconds before the end of the half as they looked to carry momentum into halftime.
Colgate's offense was much more present in the second half as they posted two shots on goal by
Nicole Salamone and
Blair Boyles. The efforts strongly countered Holy Cross' presence on the field, as Colgate held them to just five attempted shots, compared to 11 in the first half. Additionally, Colgate only sacrificed a single penalty corner in the second half to the Crusaders, and didn't allow any goals off of the corner opportunities. Midway through the second half, Holy Cross was able to add a tally to the scoreboard, for the 4-0 final on the afternoon.
STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
• The Raiders first shot on goal came by sophomore forward
Meghan Minturn in the first half. The attempt marked one of Minturn's team-leading three shots on the day. The three shots are just one shy of her season-high of four earned against Cornell (Sept. 25), making it seven shots in the last two games for the Winnetka, Illinois native.
• The second half featured two penalty corner opportunities for the Raiders, where the offense generated two more shots on goal by both junior
Nicole Salamone and sophomore
Blair Boyles.
• Freshman goalkeeper
Anna Unger marked four saves in the first half, while sophomore
Emma Goldberg tallied three in the second half of action. Outside of a four-save performance in 15:57 of play against Bucknell, Goldberg's .750 save percentage is her second-best of the 2018 campaign.
THE BOTTOM LINE
• Holy Cross 4, Colgate 0
