Late Offensive Push Falls Just Short for Field Hockey

The Raiders Drew Five Penalty Corners in Second Half, but Stifled by Ranked Terriers

BOSTON – Although the Raiders had a strong second half push against No. 21 Boston University, the Colgate field hockey program fell 2-0 to the Terriers in Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Boston University was able to get onto the board just 12:18 into the game after they picked up a quick rebound attempt at the left side of the cage. After consistently pressuring the Raiders defense, the Terriers were able to increase their lead with just 7:27 remaining before the half as they capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity.

In the second, the Raiders came out with an offensive pressure that tested the Terriers defense, and gained some momentum in the Boston University zone as they drew five penalty corner opportunities. Although sophomore Taylor Casamassa tallied a shot on goal on one of the penalty corner chances, Colgate was unable to capitalize on the opportunities before the clock ran out.

STATISTICAL STANDOUTS
• Freshman goalkeeper Anna Unger faced 19 total shots against Boston University, and marked nine saves in the cage. With just two goals against and a .818 save percentage, it marks Unger's best save percentage of the season outside of a five-save shutout of Central Michigan on Aug. 24.
• The lone shot on goal for the Raiders came on a penalty corner opportunity in the second half by sophomore Taylor Casamassa. A native of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, Casamassa has now tallied five shots and three shots on goals in the last four games.
• Marking an attempt at the net in the first half for the Raiders was junior Maggie Lake. It marks the midfielder's first shots since a three-shot game against LIU Brooklyn on Aug. 26.
• After facing then-No. 21 Albany on Sept. 1, No. 21 Boston University marks the Raiders second ranked opponent of the season.

THE BOTTOM LINE
• No. 21 Boston University 2, Colgate 0

RECORD UPDATES
• Colgate falls to 2-7 on the year, and holds an 0-2 record in Patriot League play.
• No. 21 Boston University improves to 6-3 on the season, and remains undefeated in League play at 2-0.

COACH CORNELL'S TAKE
"Today was a great step for our program, we competed a full 70 min against a talented BU team. We made adjustments throughout the game and the team remained composed under pressure. Our goalie and backline were very steady and made some outstanding plays that fed the team's confidence."

"We really stepped up the pressure in the last 10:00 of the game drawing five corners. If we started our attacking threat sooner, we certainly could have scored a couple goals. We are still learning to find ways to capitalize on our attacking opportunities."

UP NEXT
The Raiders are back in action again on Tuesday, when they travel to Ithaca, New York to face Patriot League foe Cornell. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
