BALTIMORE – 110 minutes were not enough to decide a winner as Colgate and Loyola played to a scoreless draw Friday night in a rematch of the 2017 Patriot League semifinal at Ridley Athletic Complex.
In a defensive battle from the opening whistle, Colgate turned to its junior keeper Jacob Harris, who racked up a season-high seven saves in the draw.
Kian Alberto delivered Colgate's first shot in the 10th minute on a long drive that Loyola keeper Chase Vosvick scooped up for his first save. Just over two minutes later, Kentaro Morrison had a great look from the left wing and fired a shot that Vosvick deflected high in the air. There were Raiders in the area but Vosvick leaped to snag the loose ball and end the threat.
Loyola applied more pressure through the middle stages of the frame and Harris came up with his first big save in the 24th minute. Barry Sharifi beamed a low shot from the top of the box and Harris dove to his right to snatch the shot that was headed inside the left post.
Josh Fawole scored what appeared to be the first goal of the match off a corner kick from Gabriel Carlsson in the 32nd minute, but his header to the back of the net was waved off after a Greyhound was called for interfering with Harris. That proved to be the final chance for either team in the half as the match remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
Edward Bass had one of Colgate's best chances just over three minutes into the second frame after Ryan Krueger unleashed a shot from the left side. Vosvick came up with the initial save but the rebound left a loose ball in front. Bass fired a shot towards the net, but a Loyola defender came across to block the shot and turn possession over to the Greyhounds.
Loyola dictated the pace of play for the majority of the second half. The Greyhounds fired two shots off the crossbar, including one in the final minutes of regulation, and were unable to capitalize on seven corner kicks in the second half. Harris kept the match scoreless with three saves in the half.
Aram Ouligian forced a save out of Vosvick in the 80th minute, which proved to be one of the best Raider chances late in the match as the two teams remained scoreless after 90 minutes of play.
Loyola continued to press on the attack, earning five corner kicks in the two extra sessions. The Raider defense buckled down and Harris saved the only shot he faced in the second overtime period as the two teams played to a 0-0 stalemate.
