HAMILTON – Volleyball senior
Lauren Sanderson is this year's recipient of the Colgate University 1819 Award.
The university's most prestigious student recognition is given annually to one graduating student whose character, scholarship, sportsmanship and service to others best exemplify the university's spirit and value of a liberal arts education.
"I couldn't be more proud of Lauren," Colgate volleyball head coach
Ryan Baker said. "This is the most prestigious award at Colgate and she is very deserving.
"She has made her mark on the court, in the classroom and in the community. I knew she was going to be something special in my first meeting with her during the recruiting process. She certainly hasn't disappointed! She is the consummate student-athlete."
A native of London, Ontario, Sanderson is an English major with an emphasis on creative writing. She was the 2017 winner of the Lasher Prize for outstanding talent and has received the Dean's Award every semester of her Colgate career.
On the volleyball court, Sanderson ranked first in the Patriot League in setting and 13th nationally for assists. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors and also was one of seven members selected for the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
Sanderson is the first
Colgate student-athlete to win the 1819 Award since Kori Strother from women's track and field in 2015.
