HAMILTON –
First-year pitcher Bella Crow struck out a career-best nine batters in her third-straight complete-game effort to lead the Colgate softball team to a 3-1 win over Binghamton in the Raiders' home-opening doubleheader Monday afternoon. The win helped Colgate bounce back from a tough 5-4 loss in the twin bill opener.

First-year Mia Guevarra tallied four RBI in the two games combined to lead the Raider bats, while senior Holly Geranen knocked in two runs.

After a scoreless first two innings, Colgate was able to break through in the bottom of the third inning of the nightcap. Sophomore Nicole Rounsavill was hit by a pitch before Geranen followed with an RBI triple to right field. Guevarra followed suit with a double to left center to score Geranen and give the Raiders a 2-0 lead through three innings.

Hits from Rounsavill and Geranen were followed by an RBI groundout off the bat of Guevarra to make it 3-0 Colgate in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Crow limited the Bearcats to just four hits and struck outs seven batters through the first five innings. Binghamton was able to get on the board in the top of the sixth on a solo home run from Kate Richard that spoiled Crow's shutout bid and put the score at 3-1.

Crow took care of the rest, striking out two of the final four batters she faced, to lock up the 3-1 Colgate victory.

Binghamton used three hits, two of which were doubles, to put Colgate in a quick 2-0 hole in the top of the first inning of the day's opener. The Raiders answered right back in the bottom of the frame as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Geranen drove home sophomore Virginia Irby to pull Colgate within 2-1.

The Bearcats tacked on an unearned run in the top of the second to work their lead back to two runs at 3-1. Colgate got the run back in the bottom of the third as a sacrifice fly from junior Lauren La Terra plated Rounsavill to put the score at 3-2 through three frames.

Binghamton reclaimed a two-run lead in the fifth, but Colgate had another answer in the bottom of the inning. Irby reached by way of error before Guevarra smoked an RBI single to left to make it 4-3 at the end of five.

The Bearcats added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. After an RBI from Guevarra in the bottom of the seventh pulled the Raiders within one, Colgate was able to put runners on the corners with two outs. Binghamton pitcher Makenzie Goluba got a groundout to end the game, however, as the Bearcats held on for the 5-4 win.
