RIVERSIDE, Calif. – North Dakota State rode a five-run first inning to a 7-1 win over the Colgate softball team Saturday at the UC Riverside Classic.
NDSU scored five runs in the bottom of the first to put Colgate in an early 5-0 hole. The Bison's two-time All-Region pitcher Jacquelyn Sertic kept the Raiders scoreless for the first two frames before Colgate was able to break through in the third.
Sophomore
Virginia Irby drew a one-out walk and then took second on a wild pitch. First-year
Mia Guevarra stepped up with an RBI double to pull the Raiders within 5-1.
Senior
Kyle Griswold pitched 3.1 innings of hitless relief before NDSU used a solo home run to make it 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth. The Bison then added another run in the sixth to secure the 7-1 victory.
