Odierno Hits First Career Home Run in Sunday Action

Raiders Fall To Columbia and UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Colgate softball team couldn't get its bats heated up in a pair of tough losses to Columbia and UC Riverside Sunday afternoon at the UC Riverside Classic.

Columbia put Colgate in an early hole that the Raiders were never able to recover from as the Lions put up seven runs, only three of which were earned, in the top of the first.

Senior Kyle Griswold and sophomore Brittany Bendel combined to throw 6.1 innings of scoreless relief to keep the Lions from adding to their lead. Sophomore Sabrina Odierno smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, but it would be Colgate's only run production as the Raiders fell 7-1.

Griswold got the starting nod for the nightcap against UC Riverside. The pitcher kept the Highlanders off the board in the first, but the tournament hosts added single runs in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 3-0 lead through five. UC Riverside then tacked on three runs in the sixth to cement the 6-0 victory.
