Raiders Respond, Take Down BU 16-9

Five Goals from Brown, Six Assists from Cleveland Spark Crucial Victory

BOSTON – This time, it was Colgate's turn to bounce back from a tough first quarter.

The Raiders brushed off an early deficit and posted an impressive 16-9 Patriot League victory Saturday at Boston University. It's Colgate's first conference win of the season and first against the Terriers in four years.

After grabbing an opening-quarter lead in a Tuesday loss at Hobart, Colgate found itself trailing 3-0 through 15 minutes against the Terriers.

But Griffin Brown scored three times in the second quarter on his way to a six-goal afternoon, and Colgate went to the locker room leading 6-4. The Raiders pushed their lead to 10-6 through three quarters and then scored six times in the fourth to finish off their first win since Feb. 17.

32981The game turned when Colgate scored six consecutive goals from the 7:02 mark of the second quarter to the 12:39 point of the third, turning a 4-2 deficit into an 8-4 lead. Only once the rest of the way did the Colgate faceoff unit and defense allow Boston University to score back-to-back goals.

Sam Cleveland was a catalyst all afternoon, handing out a career-high six assists on Colgate's first 10 goals. He set up Brown twice, James Caddigan Jr., twice, Joe Delaney and Mike Hawkins.

Delaney posted his second hat trick of the season and Caddigan, Hawkins and Matt Donovan all scored twice. Parker Baddley continued a terrific week with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Collin Orr won 20-of-28 faceoffs and picked up a career-high 12 ground balls.

From the Source
• Colgate head coach Mike Murphy: (On the team's resolve after going down 3-0) "We talk every day about being resilient, and we just stayed the course. We made some careless turnovers on offense but nobody panicked."

(On the team's man-up success) "It gave us another spark and by scoring it allowed us to keep momentum in certain situations."

(On Sam Cleveland's play) "Sam is doing a good job of just taking what the defense is giving him. He is comfortable at the point in many of our sets and he is a good shooter, so defenses have been quick to slide to him and he is just finding open guys. Those guys are finishing the opportunities."

32986(On Parker Baddley's play) "Parker was very good off the ground today. Our top faceoff unit of Orr, Blumenberg and Baddley made the plays we need them to make in order for us to win. It was a huge point of emphasis coming out of Tuesday's game."
