HAMILTON – Colgate's first-year attacking duo of
Mike Hawkins and
James Caddigan Jr. combined for eight goals but it wasn't enough in a 13-10 Bucknell victory.
The Raiders led 3-0 less than six minutes into Saturday's game after
Chase Wittich scored unassisted and Hawkins found the net twice. But Bucknell used a pair of three-goal flurries to lead 6-5 at halftime.
The teams traded goals in the third quarter for an 8-7 Bison lead. Bucknell then scored the opening two goals of the final period and thanked the goal post for keeping the Raiders at bay just enough in a high-scoring fourth quarter.
First
Duncan Hoskinson and then Wittich hit the post midway through the period as Colgate tried desperately to narrow the margin to one. Bucknell goalkeeper Christian Klipstein also did his part with two saves in the fourth quarter and 12 for the game.

Hawkins scored his five goals on his first five shots of the game, with Klipstein stopping only the sixth and final attempt in the closing minutes. Hawkins leads the team with 15 goals and 19 points.
Caddigan earned his first collegiate start in place of the injured
Anthony Abbadessa and responded with his first collegiate goal – times three. His first two tallies came back-to-back in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 5-3 lead. Caddigan struck for his third early in the second half.
Nicky Petkevich scored Colgate's other goal, with
Sam Cleveland and
Matt Donovan pitching in a pair of assists.
Will Blumenberg was the ground ball leader once again with five, and first-year
Nick Salameda contributed a pair of caused turnovers.
