Raiders Held in Check at Navy

Jacob Harris Records Five Saves for Colgate

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –  An early goal proved to be the difference on Sunday afternoon, as Navy held on to defeat the Colgate men's soccer team 1-0 in Patriot League action.

Colgate had the first chance of the match in the sixth minute after Oliver Harris had a shot blocked in front of the net. Freddy Jonsson curled a corner kick into the box moments later but Harris' ensuing header struck just wide.

Jacob Harris recorded his first save in the 15th minute but the Midshipmen responded less than three minutes later with the game's first goal. After a Raider foul in the box, Jacob Williams converted on a penalty kick at the 17-minute mark of the first half.

The Raiders were held in check for the majority of the first half and were unable to issue a shot on target. Harris notched two saves down the stretch in the opening stanza to keep the match a one-goal game after 45 minutes.

Colgate strengthened its offensive possessions in the second half but the Navy defense held strong with six blocked shots, including headers by Christian Clarke and Tim Oberg, that were both off corner kick opportunities from Jonsson and Matthew Glick.

The Raiders came away with their best opportunity late in the second frame when Jonsson rang a shot off the crossbar. Kentaro Morrison had another shot blocked and Uyi Omorogbe forced a late save from Navy keeper Tyler Fahning as the Midshipmen held on to secure the 1-0 victory.
