BOSTON—The Colgate Women's Hockey team came out firing on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena, but Northeastern got the bounces.
The Raiders had great energy right from the start of the game, but the Huskies countered and took an early lead. Matti Hartman and Andrea Renner scored in the span of 50 seconds to give Northeastern a quick 2-0 advantage just over nine minutes into the frame.
Less than a minute later, Colgate made quick offense to cut the deficit in half.
Shae Labbe won a faceoff forward to
Bailey Larson, who fed
Coralie Larose on a 2-on-0 break. Larose went the roof past Huskies netminder Brittany Bugalski to get the visitors on the board.
Colgate almost had the equalizer in the opening period and ended the frame with a 15-12 advantage in shots on goal. Unfortunately, Northeastern tacked onto their lead before the break to make it 3-1 with a Kasidy Anderson tally.
The teams battled without a goal throughout most of the second period, until Larose found the magic touch once again 15 minutes in. She entered the offensive zone from the left point and once again ripped a wrist shot that clanked off the crossbar and went in. Larson and Labbe were once again credited with the assists.
The one goal margin was short lived, as the Huskies scored three and a half minutes later on an unfortunate bounce for the Raiders that ended up in their net.
The score remained 4-2 heading into the third period, where the Huskies clamped down defensively and eventually came out with a 5-2 win to earn the weekend split.
Julia Vandyk ended her day with 28 saves in the Raider goal.
