BOSTON – The Colgate men's basketball team struggled to find any offensive rhythm in a tough 72-58 loss at Boston University Thursday night.
The Raiders shot a season-low 29.5 percent from the field and 17.6 percent from three-point range in the frustrating offensive night. First-year
Jordan Burns led Colgate with 18 points, while senior
Jordan Swopshire followed with 13.
The Terriers opened up an 18-9 lead 10 minutes into the game as Colgate started 4-for-13 from the field and 1-for-11 from three-point range. After a
Malcolm Regisford tip-in at the 9:09 mark, Burns went on score 11 of Colgate's final 13 points of the half.
The rookie drained three-pointers that pulled Colgate within four at 20-16, 25-21 and 28-24. The Raiders weren't able to get any more offensive production in the opening term, however, as BU scored the final three points to take a 31-24 lead into the locker room.
BU scored six of the second half's first eight points to extend their lead to 37-26 just under three minutes into the term. Colgate answered with a 6-2 streak of its own to pull back within seven, but BU rattled off the next five points to take its largest lead yet at 44-32 with 11:59 to play.
A 7-1 Colgate streak was capped by five-straight points from junior
Francisco Amiel that narrowed the gap back to seven at 51-44 with 7:50 on the clock. The Terriers followed with a 15-7 run over the next 7:50, however, to put the game out of reach and pull away for the 72-58 win.
