HAMILTON – The Colgate men's soccer team picked up its first-ever win over a Pac-12 team with a 1-0 victory against Oregon State Friday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field. It looked like the contest would soon be headed to overtime, but junior
Uyi Omorogbe netted the game-winning goal in the 88th minute to lead the Raiders to victory.
Senior keeper
Peter Tappenden made six big saves in goal to pick up his third-straight shutout. The Raiders have blanked their opponents in their last three games and haven't surrendered a goal in over 280 minutes of play.
Oregon State had a few chances in the opening 20 minutes, but the Colgate defense was able to keep the Beaver attack at bay. Tappenden made a pair of big saves in the 30th and 38th minutes, the later of which was an impressive diving stop.
Colgate brought the pressure in the closing minutes of the first half as senior
Jared Stroud and junior
Oliver Harris both got off good shots, but the game went to halftime scoreless.
Tappenden continued to shine in goal in the 55th minute when he made a pair of huge saves following a Colgate corner kick. The Raiders followed suit as senior Brudo Scodari forced Beaver keeper Ryan Vincent to make a diving save just a minute later.
It wasn't until the 88th minute when the Raiders were finally able to break through. The ball was bobbled around the box following a Stroud corner kick, but Omorogbe collected it and sent it right past Vincent to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead they would need.
The Colgate defense stood tall in the final 2:25 of play to secure the 1-0 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach
Erik Ronning
- "Oregon State is a terrific team with some great athletes. We were a little tentative to start the game, but we stuck with our plan and stuck to what we do best. We grew into the game progressively and as it wore on we began to possess the ball a little better and play a little faster."
- "It was tough to create good scoring opportunities against their strong defensive team. We won a couple second balls in the box and that decided the game. I'm really proud of the effort they put forth because they really stuck with the plan."
- "We gave ourselves a chance to win with our goalkeeper and back line doing a great job. I'm happy for the boys who have worked incredibly hard. It's so hard to win games at the college level and every win is incredibly rewarding."
