HAMILTON –
A goal from junior Aram Ouligian helped the Colgate men's soccer team tie the score at 1-1 in the 81st minute, but Loyola scored just over two minutes later to hand the Raiders a tough 2-1 defeat Friday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

The game pitted the defending Patriot League champion Raiders against the preseason favorite Greyhounds in the teams' league opener and a rematch of last year's Patriot League Semifinals.

The teams traded possession in the opening minutes, but it was Loyola who was able to get on the board first when Preseason Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Barry Sharifi scored his third goal of the season in the 22nd minute to give the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.

The Raiders picked up the pace in the final 15 minutes of the term, getting off five shots and a corner kick. Loyola keeper Chase Vosvick made a big stop on an attempt from junior Abdel Sanogo in the last five minutes to keep the 1-0 Greyhound lead in tact heading into halftime.

Colgate senior keeper Peter Tappenden made a key diving save 15 minutes into the second half to keep the Greyhound lead at 1-0. The Raiders were able to tie it up in the 81st minute when Ouligian got his head on a long throw-in from Sanogo. Ouligian headed the ball into the left-hand side netting to knot the score at 1-1.

Loyola answered just over two minutes later, however, when T.J. Walker knocked in a cross from Barry Sharifi to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
