AMHERST, Mass. – Oliver Harris scored his first goal of the season but it wasn't enough as Colgate dropped a 2-1 decision at Massachusetts.
The host Minutemen scored first when Samuel Asamoah connected in the 14th minute. Asamoah eluded the Colgate defense and fired home from 12 yards out just inside the near post.
Colgate's Harris equalized eight minutes later. The junior midfielder tallied his second career goal, this one a 16-yarder from the left angle.
Jared Stroud contributed his second assist of the season and it was 1-1 at halftime.
But UMass tallied the only goal of a competitive second half when Davis Smith tapped home a deflection from four yards out in the 72nd minute. It was Smith's first goal of the season, and Jack Fulton earned an assist on the play.
Colgate pushed forward and earned a corner kick Stroud in the 81st minute, That led to Uyiosa Omorogbe heading a shot on goal that was blocked.
Kentaro Morrison's header attempt in the 86th minute was wide and the Raiders never could put another shot on goal.
