ALBANY – The Colgate women's soccer team trailed Albany 1-0 before goals from sophomore
Lindsey Wiley and first-year
Ellis Miller helped the Raiders to a 2-1 win against the defending America East champion Great Danes Sunday afternoon.
Wiley and Miller both scored their first-career goals to lift Colgate to its second-straight road win. The Raiders picked up a big 1-0 victory at Syracuse Thursday night.
Sophomore
Dom DeMarco forced Albany keeper Andrea Leitner to make a save less than five minutes into the contest, but the Great Danes were able to get on the board shortly thereafter. Kimberly Dieroff netted her first goal of the season in the 10th minute to give Albany an early 1-0 lead.
First-year keeper
Sophia Boggs made three saves in the next ten minutes to keep the Raider deficit at 1-0. The Raiders picked up the pressure with three shots and two corner kicks in the next 15 minutes before Wiley was able to tie the game in the 40th minute. She collected a free kick in the box and punched it into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Both teams had a few chances in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but neither was able to take a lead until the 70th minute. Miller sent an absolute beauty from the edge of the 18-yard box over the Albany keeper's head into the far post to give the Raiders a 2-1 advantage.
The Colgate defense took care of the rest, limiting the Great Danes to just three shots the rest of the way as the Raiders secured the 2-1 victory.
