HAMILTON – Colgate nearly complete a valiant comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but Holy Cross held on for a 3-1 victory in Sunday's series finale at Eaton Street Field.
After a scoreless first two innings, Holy Cross got on the board in the third on a solo home run off the bat of Emily Krisanda to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. The Raiders scattered three hits off Holy Cross starting pitcher Alexandra Held, but weren't able to get any run production through the first six frames.
Holy Cross used a pair of RBI fielder's choices to add two runs in the top of the fifth and extend the Crusader advantage to 3-0.
The Raiders attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh as senior
Tara Grennan drew a one-out walk and sophomore
Pami White followed with a single up the middle. A batter later, sophomore
Madison Aston drew a base on balls to load the bases with two outs. Senior
Katie Bushee followed with a walk of her own to score Grennan and pull the Raiders within 3-1. Holy Cross pitcher Alexandra Held struck out the next batter to end the threat, however, as secure the 3-1 Crusader win.
