Raiders Roll on Senior Day, 11-6

Abbadessa Scores Four Goals in Win over Lafayette; Brown Extends Goal-Scoring Streak

HAMILTON – Anthony Abbadessa still has another big season remaining with the Colgate Raiders, but he made sure Senior Night 2017 was a good memory for his upper-class teammates.

Abbadessa matched his collegiate high with four goals and Griffin Brown extended his goal-scoring streak to 12 games as Colgate knocked off Lafayette, 11-6. The victory was Colgate's ninth straight home win over the Leopards in a streak that began in 2000.

The Raiders peppered a season-high 49 shots on Lafayette goalkeeper Jonathan Anastos and scored in double-figures for the third game in a row. Anastos saved 19 shots for the best total in a Patriot League game this year, but it wasn't enough.

Abbadessa broke out early, tallying a natural hat trick within a 3:04 span late in the first quarter and early in the second. His fourth goal of the night put Colgate in front 10-3 at the end of three quarters.

Brown waited until nearly the last breath but extended his goal-scoring streak to 12 games with a turnaround shot from the slot just 1:28 before the final horn.

The Raider first-year midfielder leads the team with 23 goals and entered the weekend tied for the 10th-longest active goal streak in the nation.

28827Senior captain Jackson Patterson and 10 other Colgate seniors were recognized before the game. Patterson returned to the starting lineup on defense after missing the last three games with an illness.

Won-Lost Records

• Lafayette capped its season 2-11 and 1-6.

Raider Scoring Recap
• It took 11½ minutes on the clock before Parker Baddley of all Raiders put Colgate on the board to tie it 1-1.
• After a turnover, Will Blumenberg alertly found Baddley streaking downfield. With no one picking him up, Baddley put his long pole into action and blistered a shot into the upper right corner.
• It was Blumenberg's first assist of the season and Baddley's first career goal.
• Lafayette reclaimed the lead but then Abbadessa swung into action with three goals in a 3:04 window. The first and third were unassisted, and Matt Donovan posted his first career assist on the middle tally.
• That ignited a 7-0 Raiders run that lasted into the third quarter.
• Nicky Petkevich, Sam Cleveland and Peter Donato scored in the final minutes before half for a 7-2 Raiders edge at intermission.
• Duncan Hoskinson made it 8-2 with a one-handed, catch-and-shoot highlight for his 11th of the season early in the third quarter.
• Lafayette finally snapped a 28:24 scoreless drought on Conor Walters' second of the game with 4:56 showing in the third.
• But Colgate returned to work and closed the quarter on goals from Petkevich and Abbadessa to make it 10-3 after three periods.
• Brown's tally with 1:28 showing wrapped up the Raider offense.

(On Patterson and the seniors) "It was great having Jackson back out there – we certainly missed him – and it's always great to get a win for the seniors on Senior Night.

"We're just looking at it as a two-game season. We wanted to get our last Patriot League victory in the books, and we did that. We'll take some time to heal and then get ready to play Syracuse."

28829• Colgate attackman Anthony Abbadessa: (On the game) "All week, we talked about playing for the seniors. Those guys have been leading us and we wanted to get a win for them. We followed their lead, just kept working hard and kept playing fast."
