Bushee Breaks Career Triples Record Saturday

Raiders Fall to Fairfield and UT Chattanooga

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Colgate softball senior Katie Bushee smacked the 13th triple of her career to set a program record, but the Raiders dropped a pair of games to Fairfield and UT Chattanooga Saturday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. Colgate fell 3-2 in a tight battle with the Stags to open the day before the Mocs put up a seven-run seventh inning en route to a 10-0 win.

Bushee's 13th career triple broke the previous record of 12 that was set by Alana Dyson '13.

After a scoreless inning in the day's opener, Fairfield used a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead through two frames.

The Raiders were able to get on the board in the top of the third when sophomore Baillie Jorth knocked a two-out single to center. Bushee followed with her record-breaking triple to score Jorth and pull Colgate within 2-1.

The Stags threatened with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, but senior starter Gillian Murray got the Stags to line into a double play to end the threat and keep the Fairfield lead at 2-1.

Colgate was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Lauren La Terra roped a one-out single before first-year Jordan Miller smoked a double to center to score the game-tying run.

Fairfield snagged the lead right back in the bottom of the sixth as a leadoff triple was followed by a suicide squeeze to give the Stags a 3-2 advantage. The Raiders couldn't get anything going in the seventh as Fairfield pitcher Destinee Pallotto closed it out in to secure the 3-2 win.

Chattanooga used three hits and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the day's nightcap. The Mocs threatened to add onto their lead in the top of the fourth as they loaded the bases with one out, but first-year pitcher Brittany Bendel got two quick groundouts to keep the Chattanooga lead at two.

The Mocs added a run in the top of the sixth on a solo home run from Amanda Beltran to stretch their lead to 3-0. Chattanooga then plated seven runs, only four of which were earned, in the seventh to put Colgate in a 10-0 hole. The Colgate bats couldn't get going as the Raiders were only able to scatter three hits off Chattanooga pitcher Payten Price and the Mocs walked away with the 10-0 victory.
