Raiders Upend First-Place Navy, 69-61

Stone Scores 8, King 7 to Spark Fourth-Quarter Surge; Snaps 10-Game Slide vs. Mids

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Better days aren't down the road for Colgate Women's Basketball.

They're already here.

The Raiders bagged their second Patriot League victory of the week Saturday, and this one was quite a catch. Colgate knocked off first-place Navy 69-61 in Alumni Hall, snapping several streaks in the process.

Gone is Colgate's 10-game overall losing spell to the Mids and seven-game slide in Annapolis. Navy also lost at home for the first time since February of last year, ending a 10-game run. The Mids entered Saturday 9-1 in conference and 9-0 at home.

Colgate with the win nudged into a sixth-place tie with Loyola at 5-6 in the Patriot League.

After trailing by as many as nine points in the first half, Colgate pulled level 44-44 heading to the fourth quarter. That's when Kateri Stone scored eight of her team-high 15 points and Summer King contributed her very own 7-2 run down the stretch to key a 25-point final period.

Colgate over the last 10 minutes shot 59 percent from the floor (10-of-17), posted a 12-7 rebounding edge and committed just one turnover.

In addition to Stone's 15 points, Abby Schubiger scored a season-high 10 and Katie Curtis nine. King just missed her second straight double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.

Navy was led by Sarita Condie's 19 points.

From the Source
• Colgate head coach Bill Cleary: (On having good feelings going into today's game) "I did. We had two great days of practice. We focused on what we needed to work on, particularly defensively.

"Our players deserve the credit. They've bought in and are understanding how every detail, no matter how minute, is so important."

(On rallying from Navy's early push) "We wanted to get them out of what they are good at. They are such a great team. They do a great job of sharing the basketball by hitting the gaps and kicking it out to their shooters. That was a conscious effort on our part and we got them to do things they weren't used to doing."

• Colgate junior guard Kateri Stone: (On the fourth quarter rally) "It was definitely our defense. We are starting to believe what Coach has been preaching since August and you really saw the results in our favor. We did a great job getting stops – especially toward the end. I know it went back and forth, but we had some clutch rebounds from Tori Pozsonyi and Summer King, and then we were able to capitalize on the offensive end."

• Colgate sophomore forward Summer King: (On her game) "My teammates did a great job in the end of spreading it out and getting the ball to me down low, and I was lucky enough to be able to finish. Coach Popovich has been working with me on my seals and getting good angles, and Kateri found me (on the 3-point play)."
