DELAND, Fla. – The Colgate softball team wasn't able to overcome early deficits Friday afternoon as the Raiders fell 14-2 to Ole Miss before dropping a 10-1 decision to Stetson on the opening day of the Hatter Invitational.
The Rebels struck right away, using four hits and five walks to take an 8-0 lead after the top of the first inning in the day's opener. Ole Miss added six runs in the next two frames to jump ahead 14-0 through three.
The Raider bats were able to break through in the bottom of the fourth inning when sophomore
Lauren La Terra drew a one-out walk before junior
Holly Geranen smacked a home run over the left field fence to put a pair of Colgate runs on the board. Colgate wasn't able to erase the early deficit, however, as the Rebels claimed a 14-2 win.
Another big first inning doomed the Raiders in the day's nightcap against Stetson as the Hatters put 10 runs on the board in the bottom of the frame. Colgate got a run back in the bottom of the fourth after La Terra drew a leadoff base on balls and Greranen followed with a single to left. Sophomore
Pami White then knocked a base hit to center to bring home La Terra. Colgate wasn't able to get any more run production as the Hatters claimed a 10-1 decision.
