BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate men's basketball junior
Jordan Robertson went off for a season-best 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders dropped an 87-69 decision at Lehigh Wednesday night.
The teams were tied at 31-31 with six minutes left in the first half, but the Mountain Hawks closed the opening term on a 20-2 run and never looked back.
Robertson led a trio of Raiders in double figures. Junior
Jordan Swopshire added 19 points, while first-year
Will Rayman chipped in 11.
A Rayman trey gave the Raiders an early 3-2 lead, but Lehigh scored eight-straight points to take a 10-3 advantage at the first media timeout. The Raiders heated up from beyond the arc, shooting 4-for-4 from three-point range in the next four minutes to put together a 14-5 run that gave Colgate a 17-15 advantage at the 12:12 mark. Swopshire made three of those treys, while junior
Sean O'Brien added one.
The Mountain Hawks scored 11 of the game's next 16 points to reclaim the lead at 26-22 with 9:07 left in the half. Colgate's seventh trey in its seventh attempt came from junior
Tom Rivard and sparked a 9-5 Raider run that saw six points from Robertson as the Raiders knotted the score at 31 with 6:24 to play.
Lehigh then embarked on a 20-2 run to close the half. Two-time defending Patriot League Player of the Year Tim Kempton scored 10 of those points as the Mountain Hawks took a 51-33 lead heading into halftime.
Six points from Rayman helped Colgate score nine of the second half's first 14 points to pull within 56-42, but the Mountain Hawks rattled off the next eight points to pull ahead 64-42 with under 13 minutes to play.
The Raiders were never able to recover despite 14 more points from Robertson as the Mountain Hawks walked away with the 87-69 victory.
