Labbe Nets Hat Trick in 7-3 Victory Over Brown

Raiders Tally Three Goals in Both First and Second Periods; Seven Players Record Multi-Point Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -  The Colgate women's ice hockey team traveled to Brown University and recorded a 7-3 victory Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. The Raiders saw seven players record multiple points during the game, led by Shae Labbe's (Calgary, Alberta) hat trick and five points.

The first period of play was a high scoring affair, as the score going into the intermission was 3-2 in favor of Colgate.

The Raiders got on the board first with a power-play goal from Labbe seven minutes into the period. Bailey Larson (Sycamore, Illinois) crossed the puck from the left faceoff circle, and Labbe was waiting to fire home her 12th goal of the season. Senior Cat Quirion (Lac-Megantic, Quebec) also earned an assist on the goal.

With just under seven minutes remaining, Cara Najjar scored from the point to tie the game at 1-1.

Colgate answered back with two goals in a span of 34 seconds to regain the lead.

With 3:40 remaining on the clock, Jessie Eldridge (Barrie, Ontario) netted a short-handed goal, her fourth short-handed tally of the season. She stole the puck in the zone, and went five-hole on Monica Elvin to put the Raiders up 2-1.

Megan Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario) made it a 3-1 game, just over 30 seconds later. Sullivan blasted a hard shot over the shoulder of Elvin for her ninth goal of the season. Larson and Perry earned the helpers on the goal.

The Bears responded with one minute remaining, when Sam Donovan scored to bring the Brown deficit to one.

The second period continued much like the first, with a total of four goals being scored between the two teams.

Labbe opened the scoring in the second frame with her second goal of the game. Eldridge sent a centering pass and Labbe was in front to poke the puck into the net. Lauren Wildfang (Waterdown, Ontario) was also credited with an assist on the play.

Brown continued to fight and narrowed the score to 4-3, when Sarah Migliori managed to sneak one past Julia Vandyk.

Shelby Perry (Elginburg, Ontario) stepped up for the Raiders, scoring two consecutive goals as time wound down in the second period, to make it a 6-3 game.

With less than five minutes remaining in the second, Labbe shot the puck from the point and Perry redirected it in front to tally her eighth goal of the season. Wildfang dished out the secondary assist.

Two minutes later, Perry netted her second of the game when she collected a wide Sullivan shot behind the net, brought the puck around, and went top shelf. Labbe collected her second assist of the game on the play.

The Raiders continued to pepper Elvin with shots, but weren't able to convert until there was less than three minutes remaining in regulation. Quirion passed to Chelsea Jacques (Calument, Michigan), who made a hard shot from the point. Labbe was standing in front and redirected the puck to record her second hat trick of the season.

Goaltender Julia Vandyk (Cambridge, Ontario) made 16 stops between the pipes for Colgate, while Elvin recorded 50 saves for Brown.
