HAMILTON – Colgate women's soccer senior
Emily Crichlow scored the golden goal in the 99th minute to send the Raiders to a 1-0 overtime victory over Lehigh in the Patriot League Quarterfinals Tuesday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
The win secures Colgate's spot in the Patriot League Semifinals Friday night. The Raiders will travel to Annapolis, Md. to take on top-seeded Navy in a 5:05 p.m. battle. The winner advances to Sunday's championship match.
The Raiders controlled possession for much of the opening half as Colgate wrapped up the first term with a 14-4 shot advantage. Colgate fired off several quality chances, including a shot from Crichlow that was punched over the crossbar by Lehigh keeper Sam Miller in the 26th minute.
Miller made seven stops for the Mountain Hawks to keep the Raiders off the board in the opening half. Colgate keeper
Kelly Chiavaro followed suit with two huge saves in the final 10 minutes as the game went to halftime scoreless.
First-year
Ellis Miller ripped a shot that skirted just wide to provide the first quality scoring chance of the second half in the 55th minute. Colgate continued to keep up the pressure, finished the second half with 19 total shots, but 90 minutes wasn't enough as the game was sent to overtime scoreless.
It was all Colgate in overtime as the Raiders tallied two shots before a Lehigh foul set up first-year
Syd Maxson with a free kick along the right-hand sideline. Maxson's kick sailed into the center of the box and was redirected a few times before sophomore
Leah Lewis tapped it to Crichlow. The senior forward took a one-time left-footed shot that flew over Miller's head and into the top left-hand corner of goal to hand the Raiders the 1-0 victory.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Kathy Brawn
- "I thought Lehigh out-played us in the regular season and we came away with a tie in that game. We learned a lot from that game and our players really knew that we could build on that game. We knew Lehigh was going to be very good and we knew that to beat that keeper we were going to need to find an opening. We did just that and we got the result that we wanted."
- "It was great to see Emily score the game-winning goal as a senior. Our three seniors do so many extra things to help pull this team together. They've raised the level of intensity and determination in this group in a way that's really elevated the culture of our team in the direction that we wanted. They don't feel that they're done yet and I know that they'll be ready to go Friday."
- "Now we go play against a Navy team that's arguably the best team in the conference right now. We have to get ourselves recovered and repaired and on the road to face them in that semifinal."
Senior Emily Crichlow
- (On her game-winning goal): "There was an open patch for a shot and I saw it. The whole game you just have to look out for those shots because you're not going to have very much time in the box."
- "We all worked together tonight. We all gave 110 percent. I hope we can pull this effort together on Friday and then go on to win the whole thing."
