Field Hockey Wraps Up 2017 Season vs. Pacific

Krull Moves into Fourth in Program History with 545 Career Saves as Raiders Fall, 7-1

HAMILTON – Colgate field hockey senior goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) tallied 16 saves Sunday afternoon as the Raiders fell in their final game of the 2017 season, 7-1, to the No. 24 Pacific Tigers at Tyler's Field.

Krull's 16-save performance is tied for her third most saves in a single game this season after recording double-digit saves for the eighth time.

First-year Anne Marijn Bruijn (Naarden, Netherlands) scored the Raiders only goal of the game while fellow first-year Michaela Corvi (Newburyport, Massachusetts) picked up an assist on the play.

Pacific scored the first goal of the game exactly two minutes into play as Kriekie van Wyk rifled a shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner that was inserted by Gaby de Kock and stopped by Nthabi Maine.

The Raiders had several scoring chances early in the game, including a prime shot that went off the post by Meghan Minturn (Winnetka, Illinois). Caroline Schaefer (Avon, Connecticut) swiped a shot from the left wing that drew Pacific goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder out to kick it away. Minturn made a heads up play to swipe it just to her left, but the shot ricocheted off the post.

Bruijn finally broke through for the Raiders just over five minutes later with 13:22 left in the first half. Josie Cook (New Cumberland, Pennsylvania) had a restart deep in the defensive territory and blasted a 50-yard pass down the field to Corvi, who made a great play to beat the defender to the ball. Corvi spun and carried the ball with speed before dishing it off to Bruijn who lifted the puck past van Tonder to tie the game.

Pacific scored three more goals to close out the first half of play before adding three more in the second half to close the game with a 7-1 win. Savannah Burns finished the game with four goals and an assist while van Wyk had three goals and an assist for the Tigers.
