HAMILTON – The Colgate women's soccer team put up a strong fight, but saw its 10-game unbeaten streak come to a close in the form of a 2-1 loss to first-place Navy Saturday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
The Raiders honored their three-member senior class of
Emily Crichlow,
Eliza Doll and
Keely Lockwood prior to kickoff. First-year
Ellis Miller scored Colgate's goal in the 26th minute.
The Mids were able to strike first as Ash Fairow caught Colgate sophomore keeper
Kelly Chiavaro momentarily out of goal and slotted home her ninth goal of the season to give Navy a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute.
Colgate generated a few quality chances in the next minutes before Chiavaro came up with one of her biggest saves of the night in the 20th minute on a one-on-one situation with Navy's Emily Keast.
The Raiders capitalized in the 26th minute when Colgate drew a foul and Miller lined up for the free kick about 25 yards out. Miller's ball sailed over the wall of Navy defenders and Mids keeper Sydney Fortson couldn't corral it as the Raiders knotted the score at 1-1.
Chiavaro came up with more key saves in the coming minutes, but Navy was able to find the go-ahead goal in the 43rd minute when Alex Jackson headed in a corner kick. Miller was set up with another free kick in the closing seconds of the half, but this one sailed just high as the Mids carried their 2-1 lead into the locker room.
Another free kick nearly led to a Colgate goal 12 minutes into the second half, but the attempt from first-year
Syd Maxson missed by just inches. The Raiders generated several other quality chances, but Navy held on for the 2-1 win.

- "I couldn't be happier with what our senior class has brought to this program. This team wants to play for them so badly and we look forward to getting on the right track again."
