Lafayette Deals Colgate 2-1 Loss

Ouligian Scores Fourth Goal of the Season

EASTON, Pa. – Junior Aram Ouligian scored in the 43rd minute to give the Colgate men's soccer team a 1-0 lead, but Lafayette netted two second-half goals to claim a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action.

Senior keeper Peter Tappenden made a save on the game's first shot in the 12th minute. Colgate threatened with two shots and a corner kick in a one-minute span in the 19th minute, but Lafayette keeper Brad Seeber stopped one attempt while the other was blocked.

Colgate didn't allow a Lafayette shot for the rest of the term and the Raiders were able to get on the board just before the halftime buzzer rang. Junior Abdel Sanogo drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box. Ouligian lined up for the free kick and sent the ball over the wall of Lafayette defenders and into the left-hand corner of the net to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead they would carry into halftime.

The Leopards had a few chances in the opening minutes of the second term before Lafayette's Diego Gomera-Tavarez found the equalizer in the 56th minute. He fired a laser through traffic from about 30 yards out and the ball bounced off the inside of the left post into the back of the goal to even the score at 1-1.

The Raiders generated a few quality chances, but Lafayette found to go-ahead goal in the 77th minute as Christian Moyse converted a penalty kick. Colgate brought pressure in the closing minutes, but the Leopards held on for the 2-1 victory.

  • "It is so important that we have a short memory and respond positively for the next contest. We have a very strong team with talented, high-character young men who I know will be very well prepared mentally, physically and tactically for a tough road game at Holy Cross on Wednesday."
