The Colgate deficit remained at one at 28-27 with 4:01 on the clock, but eight points from two-time defending Patriot League Player of the Year Tim Kempton guided Lehigh to a 12-3 half-closing streak that gave the Mountain Hawks a 40-30 advantage heading into the locker room.
Lehigh stretched its lead to 12 at 48-36 just over three minutes into the second half. Colgate answered with a trio three-pointers to string together a 9-2 Raider run and force a Mountain Hawk timeout as Colgate found itself within 50-45 with 13:46 to play.
Lehigh quickly thwarted yet another Raider run as the Mountain Hawks embarked on a 12-2 streak over the next five minutes to jump ahead 62-47 with under eight minutes left on the clock.
