Raiders drop 1-0 contest at Boston University

Terriers’ 15th-minute tally stands as game-winner

BOSTON – Colgate wasn't able to answer an early Boston University goal Wednesday night at Nickerson Field as the Raiders fell 1-0 to the three-time defending Patriot League Champion Terriers.

First-year Abby Sotomayor tallied the first shot of the game in the sixth minute, but BU first-half keeper Bridget Conway was there to make the save. The Terriers got on the board shortly after in the 15th minute when Jesse Shreck sent a point-blank shot past Colgate first-year keeper Kelly Chiavaro to put BU ahead 1-0.

Sophomore Jayne Maccio tallied two shots on frame in the opening half, while Chiavaro made two saves, but the Terriers took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

BU opened the second half with three shots in the first two minutes, but Colgate quickly countered with a trio of attempts. The Raiders kept the momentum and controlled possession for much of the second half. A late surge saw Colgate get off two shots and a corner kick in the final few minutes. The Raiders weren't able to find the back of the net, however, as BU walked away with the 1-0 win.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Kathy Brawn
  • "We knew going in that BU was much better than their record might indicate. While we played a solid second half, we learned the hard lesson that 45 minutes of great effort does not suffice. Kelly Chiavaro continues to keep us in games. We'll regroup and get ourselves ready for the undefeated Bison on Sunday."

UP NEXT
