HAMILTON – Colgate and Bucknell battled to overtime Sunday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field before the Bison scored with one second left on the clock to capture a 2-1 victory.
The Raiders controlled the momentum for much of the game and finished with a 25-13 shot advantage. Junior
Keely Lockwood scored Colgate's goal in the 21st minute to help the Raiders rally from an early deficit.
The Bison took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when Alexis Gannon found a streaking Maddie Mulford who sent the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. The Raiders quickly countered with a pair of quality chances from senior
Sarah Coy that Bucknell keeper Jessica Ratner was able to save. Raider first-year keeper
Kelly Chiavaro followed with a few big saves of her own before Colgate evened it up in the 21st minute.
First-year
Dom DeMarco got her head on a Coy corner kick and directed it to the feet of Lockwood who rifled the ball into the left side of the net to knot the score at 1-1. Colgate kept up the pressure and out-shot Bucknell 8-3 through the rest of the first half, but the game went to halftime locked at 1-1.
The Raiders picked up right where the left off in the second half, rattling off the first five shots of the term including a glittering attempt from Sotomayor in the 68th minute that Ratner punched over the crossbar. Chiavaro was caught in a one-on-one situation with Bucknell's Gannon in the 82nd minute, but came up with a huge save to help send the game to overtime tied at 1-1.
Colgate rattled off three shots in the first three minutes of overtime, but the best chances came in the 96th minute when an attempt from Coy sailed just inches over the crossbar and Ratner made an impressive diving save on a ball from Sotomayor.
Two more Colgate shots followed, but Bucknell capitalized on a corner kick in the final seconds as Kendall Ham scored with one second left to lead Bucknell to the 2-1 victory.
