SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Colgate defeated rival Syracuse 3-1 Sunday for the second straight meeting, this time thanks to career days from both
Katie Stansbury and
Molly Smith.

The Raiders rallied to win the final three sets, knocking off the Orange 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 to claim their first win of the season.

Stansbury had a career-high 19 kills and
Molly Smith dished out a career-best 46 assists.

Colgate could not withstand the early 8-0 run Syracuse put together in the first set. Despite a late four-point burst by the Raiders, they fell to the Orange 25-18.
Kathleen Harris's three aces sparked a four-point stretch, but Colgate couldn't get closer than four points the rest of the way.
Katie Stansbury led the team with four kills and
Lauren Sanderson recorded four digs in the first frame.

The Raiders claimed the second set 25-22 after enduring a tough back-and-forth battle. With the Raiders down 19-18 after a Colgate timeout, Stansbury recorded a huge kill to tie it at 19-19. The score remained deadlocked until Stansbury logged another kill, giving Colgate a 23-22 lead. The Maroon wouldn't look back from there. Stansbury and Stebbins both registered seven kills in the second frame and Smith dished out 16 assists.

The third set once again was a battle until the end, but a block by Stebbins ended Syracuse's momentum and Colgate claimed a 25-23 win. The Raiders went on a 5-1 run late to grab a 21-17 lead over the Orange. But after a timeout, Syracuse was able to close the gap to just a one-point Colgate lead. Baker called a timeout to settle his team and the block by Stebbins ended the set. Harris led the Raiders with six kills and

Colgate fell into an early hole in the fourth set but put together a 12-1 burst to take a 20-16 lead.
Corrina Moncada added two service aces in the run to boost the Raider momentum. Syracuse battled to within two points, but
