Kreitler, Peebles Spark Colgate Past HC

Duo Combines for 13 Points to Lead Raiders to Fifth Straight Victory; Colgate No. 5 Seed for Patriot League Tournament

WORCESTER, Mass.Isabel Kreitler and Emily Peebles combined for 13 points to lead Colgate to a 16-9 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday at Kuzniewski Field.

Kreitler tallied four goals and added three assists while Peebles notched five goals and pitched in an assist to give the Raiders their fifth straight victory.

It was a tight affair in the early going as the teams traded goals until Colgate took control of the contest, rattling off six unanswered goals in a 15:14 span to break open a 3-3 game and build a 9-3 cushion.

Kreitler scored all three of her first-half goals during the game-changing spurt, opening the run with back-to-back tallies in a span of just 2:19 before adding a third strike at the 12:30 mark. Emily Peebles scored twice and Haley O'Hanlon also found the back of the net during the pivotal stretch.

Holy Cross responded to the Colgate spurt, tallying five of the next six goals, including four answered early in the second half, to pull within two, 10-8.

That was as close as the Crusaders would get, however, as back-to-back tallies from Peebles extended the Raiders lead back to four and sparked a 6-1 Colgate stretch that closed out the contest.

With the win, Colgate finished the regular season in a tie for third place in the Patriot League standings with Boston University and Lehigh. Due to tiebreakers, the Raiders are the No. 5 seed for the Patriot League tournament. Colgate opens the postseason Tuesday with a first-round contest at No. 4 seed Lehigh. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
