EASTON, Pa. – Colgate's
Kyle Griswold and
Brigit Ieuter combined to allow just one unearned run, while striking out seven, to complete a doubleheader sweep of Lafayette.
Griswold pitched an impressive Game 1, giving up four hits and one unearned run in seven complete innings. Ieuter then followed things up in the nightcap pitching a gem herself, allowing just two hits (infield singles) in her seven shutout innings. The wins marked the seventh time this season Griswold and Ieuter pitched complete games.
Ieuter also had herself a nice little day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. One of those hits was a blast over the center field fence, handing the senior her first long ball of the year. She wasn't the only one to have a solid outing in the batter's box as six other student-athletes recorded multiple hits on the day. Rookie
Lauren La Terra notched four hits and two RBI during her seven at bats, while
Holly Geranen went 3-for-7 with an RBI and a run.
Pami White,
Marisa Dowling,
Gillian Murray,
Meghan Romero each finished with two hits on the day. White was credited with one of Colgate's runs, while Dowling accounted for an RBI and two runs and Romero two RBI and one run.
Colgate finished with 20 hits, including 11 in shutout. The 6-0 blanking in that game marked the third time this season the Raiders kept their opponent scoreless.
These two teams close out the three-game series Sunday at noon at Metzgar Fields. The game time may be pushed back due to projected inclement weather. Live stats and video will be available at the start.

Straight From The Source
•
Colgate head coach Melissa Finley: (on her thoughts from the twin bill) "Overall we played some great softball today. Kyle (Griswold) threw very well in the circle in Game 1 only giving up four hits. We also had a lot of people contribute with the bat again.
Lauren La Terra had a strong outing with three hits and
Meghan Romero came up with a clutch two-RBI single.
"In the second game, Brigit (Ieuter) shut down the Lafayette hitters and it was great to see her get such a commanding shutout. She also got it done with the bat and gave us an early lead with her two-run home run. It was really nice to see us continue to keep the pressure on them defensively and score in the late innings. It was another great team effort."
