HAMILTON – Colgate Softball tried to rally twice here Tuesday afternoon against rival Cornell but fell just shy 6-3.
Cornell jumped in front 3-0 after the opening inning but a two-run third for Colgate pulled the hosts to within 3-2. Unfortunately, a two-run double from the Big Red in the top of the fourth created a 5-2 gap between the teams.
The Raiders tried to answer in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own but Cornell would go on to secure the win following one final run in the fifth.
Tara Grennan and
Alex Gadiano both recorded two hits each to lead the Raiders. Grennan reeled in one of Colgate's runs, while Gadiano accounted for one.
Katie Bushee,
Lauren La Terra,
Pami White and
Marisa Dowling earned Colgate's other four hits on the day. Bushee and La Terra notched runs to go along with White's RBI.
Kyle Griswold was credited with the loss in the circle after allowing two hits and three earned runs during three innings of work.
Megan Carnase and
Brigit Ieuter teamed up to finish the game, splitting two innings each. Carnase gave up five hits and three earned runs, while Ieuter allowed just one hit. Combined, the pitching staff fanned two batters.
