WORCESTER, Mass. – Gillian Murray reeled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning and
Kyle Griswold pitched a gem to help Colgate Softball split a doubleheader here Saturday afternoon.
Murray's hit handed the Raiders a 2-1 extra innings win, after Colgate's comeback fell just short in the opener 7-4.
Griswold had a solid outing in the circle of the nightcap, allowing only five hits and one earned run in eight complete innings.
In Game 1,
Brigit Ieuter gave up eight hits and five runs, four of which were earned, in her 2.2 innings of work.
Megan Carnase then came in for relief, closing out the final 3.1 innings allowing three hits and two runs.
Tara Grennan,
Lauren La Terra,
Holly Geranen, and Murray all notched multiple hits on the day. Grennan reeled in four RBI, while La Terra and Geranen both accounted for two runs each. Murray chipped in an RBI and run during her time in the batters box.
One of Grennan's hits was actually a grand slam over the left field fence in the sixth inning of Game 1. But only three runs were credited because Grennan accidentally passed
Marisa Dowling, who was the runner on first base at the time. Grennan's hit was officially scored a three-run single because that was the last base she safely touched before the mishap occurred. The hit still pulled Colgate to within 5-4 at the time.
The Raiders and Crusaders close out this three-game series with a rubber match Sunday at noon. Live stats will be available at the start.

Colgate head coach Melissa Finley: (on her thoughts from the day) "It was nice to see us bounce back and win Game 2. It's always a battle with Holy Cross and it came down to who played better defensively. Kyle (Griswold) pitched a great game and we came up with some timely hits, especially Gillian's in the eighth inning."
