HAMILTON – After three scoreless innings, Colgate Softball saw Albany pull in front 3-0 in the fourth and never look back.
The Great Danes added two more runs in the fifth to seal a 5-1 non-conference victory here Wednesday afternoon.
Colgate tried to rally in the bottom half of the fifth following a one-out home run from rookie
Meghan Romero but the Raiders ultimately fell short. Romero finished Colgate's best performer going 2-for-3 with the Raiders' lone RBI and run. The Redondo Beach, California, native's long ball was the first of her career.
Holly Geranen and
Pami White also added hits on the day, while White and
Tara Grennan each earned a walk.
Through three innings, senior
Brigit Ieuter was pitching a gem, allowing just one hit, which was a bullet right back to her. She finished giving up five hits and three runs in her 3.2 innings of work. Ieuter also fanned two batters during her time in the circle.
Kyle Griswold came in for relief, pitching one inning allowing two hits and two runs.
Megan Carnase then closed out the final 2.1 innings, giving up just three hits.
Colgate kicks off Patriot League play this weekend when Army West Point comes into town. The Raiders and Black Knights will play a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday. Game time for both days is noon. Live stats and video will be available at the start of all games.
