Second-Half Surge Lifts Raiders Past Eagles

Late Push Helps Colgate Defeat American, 8-4, in Patriot League Opener Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Colgate scored five of the last six goals of the contest to break open a tied game and post an 8-4 victory over host American in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday at Jacobs Field.

Starting the second half with a 3-0 lead thanks for first-half goals from Isabel Kreitler, Lauren Gorajek and Haley O'Hanlon, the Raiders found themselves tied with the Eagles at 3-3 after American opened the frame with a trio of tallies less than five minutes in.

Natalie Washuta sparked the game-changing sequence by scoring the first two goals of the spurt. Washuta put Colgate back in front with an unassisted effort at the 23:43 mark before notching a free-position strike with 11:29 remaining to make a 5-3 contest.

Taylor Fischer expanded the Raider margin to 6-3 with her ninth goal of the season, but Olivia Mangan scored for American with a little less than six minutes on the clock to make it a two-goal contest.

The Raiders defense kept the Eagles from getting any closer, while insurance tallies from Kallan Murray and Gorajek in the final minute determined the 8-4 margin.
