La Terra Goes 3-for-5 in Twin Bill

Raiders Fall Twice In West Coast Finale, 6-2 and 5-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Colgate fell twice in its West Coast finale against North Dakota and Cal State Bakersfield here Saturday afternoon.

Both North Dakota and CSUB jumped in front early and never looked back in the Raiders' final day of the Santa Clara tournament. Colgate dropped a 6-2 decision to the Fighting Hawks in the opener before watching the Roadrunners take a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.

Rookie Lauren La Terra finished 3-for-5 on the day with a run and a walk. Holly Geranen and Pami White each chipped in two hits as well. Geranen added a walk, while White registered an RBI and a walk.

Closing out the Raider players with a hit were Katie Bushee, Tara Grennan, Alex Gadiano and Meghan Romero. Bushee and Gillian Murray notched RBIs, while Grennan accounted for one of Colgate's three runs on the day.

In the opener, Brigit Ieuter allowed three hits and four runs, one of which was earned, during her 0.1 innings of work. Megan Carnase came in for relief before Murray finished off the sixth in the circle. Carnase gave up seven hits and two runs in her 4.2 innings, while Murray did not allow a hit.

Murray then got the starting nod in game two. In the junior's 1.1 innings, she allowed six hits and four runs. Kyle Griswold then came in for relief and pitched well, giving up just three hits and one unearned run during 5.2 innings of work.

Colgate now heads back home to the East Coast where it will travel to Princeton on March 26 for its next two outings. The Raiders and Tigers will meet up for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at the start.

How It Happened
• Game One
    • North Dakota jumped in front 4-0 after a big opening inning.
    • The Fighting Hawks added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to create a six-run gap between the teams.
    • Colgate rallied for two runs in the sixth though to cut into North Dakota's lead. Grennan started the inning singling through the left side. La Terra followed with a double to right center to place two runners in scoring position. On the ensuing at bat, Murray grounded out but not before Grennan was able to touch home. The Fighting Hawks then recorded the second and third out of the inning but not before a single from White allowed La Terra to cross home plate.
    • Colgate quickly ended the bottom half of the six with nearly a one, two, three inning. Then with one last shot in the top of the seventh, the Raiders looked to spark another rally but weren't able to record the needed runs to pull even.

• Game Two
    • Cal State Bakersfield took the early 1-0 edge after the first inning.
    • The Roadrunners then tacked on three more runs in the second inning, thanks to four singles in the frame.
    • CSUB scored its final run of the game in the fourth inning following a wild pitch.
    • Colgate tried to rally in the next inning after White sparked a small one-out rally. The rookie earned herself a walk to get a runner on base. Moore then hit into a fielder's choice, erasing White from the bases but placing her at first. Moore shifted up a base on the ensuing play thanks to a wild pitch. During the next at bat, Meghan singled to third base, which allowed Alessandra Moore to advance to third. Then with runners on the corners, Bushee drilled a shot to right field to easily score Moore. Unfortunately, the Roadrunners recorded the final out of the inning to halt Colgate's rally at just one run.
    • Despite some final attempts from the Raiders to knot the score late in the game, CSUB was able to hold on for the win.

Key Raider Info
