SAN JOSE, Calif. – Colgate fell twice in a doubleheader at San Jose State on Thursday.
The Raiders dropped a 9-1 decision in six innings during the opener, before watching the Spartans take a 10-2 five-inning victory in game two.
Rookie
Pami White recorded two hits on the day to go along with her RBI and run.
Katie Bushee,
Marisa Dowling,
Tara Grennan,
Holly Geranen, and
Brigit Ieuter all posted a hit in the twin bill to close out the top Colgate players.
Dowling and Ieuter registered RBIs, while
Baillie Jorth and Grennan accounted for the other two Raider runs.
San Jose State jumped in front 1-0 after the second inning of game one, but Colgate quickly answered to knot the score in the third. Dowling singled down the left field line to bring home Jorth, who was waiting on second base.
The Raiders then tried to rally but eight unanswered runs for the hosts over the next four innings ultimately handed the Spartans the win.
In the nightcap, Colgate took a 2-0 edge early following a strong second inning. Grennan started things off with a walk before
Lauren La Terra converted on a sacrifice bunt to advance her to second. The Spartans notched the second out of the inning but on the next at bat White singled to center field, bringing Grennan home. Then during the ensuing play, Ieuter drilled a double to left center, which allowed White to score.
Unfortunately, the Spartans answered with an even bigger bottom half of the inning, recording seven runs to take the lead at 7-2. Three more runs in the third for San Jose State created a 10-2 gap between the teams and Colgate was never able to recover.
The Raiders next travel to the Santa Clara Tournament beginning Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific time. Colgate faces hosts Santa Clara first before facing off with Iona at 5 p.m. PT in its second game of the day. Live stats will be available at the start.
