MORAGA, Calif. – Colgate rallied for two runs in the seventh inning here Tuesday but ultimately fell short 7-2 to Saint Mary's.
Both
Katie Bushee and
Tara Grennan went 2-for-3 on the day to lead Colgate. Bushee chipped in an RBI, while also earning a walk.
Holly Geranen,
Pami White and
Alex Gadiano accounted for the other three Raider hits.
Brigit Ieuter allowed four hits and four runs, with just one being earned, in her two innings of work.
Megan Carnase came in for relief, pitching four innings allowing six hits and three runs, two earned. The duo combined to fan two batters.
It was a scoreless ballgame heading into the bottom of the second until the Gaels sparked a four-run inning to break the contest open.
Saint Mary's added three more runs throughout the fourth and fifth to create a 7-0 gap between the teams.
Colgate would not let up though sparking a one-out rally in the top of the seventh. The Gaels registered the first out of the inning before White single to the shortstop to get a runner on base. Gadiano followed with a pinch-hit single to center field, advancing White to second. Bushee then brought White home with a double to center.
On the ensuing play,
Marisa Dowling grounded out but not before Gadiano touched home to cut into the lead. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Raiders would come as Saint Mary's recorded the final out of the inning to seal the win.
