HAMILTON –
The Colgate men's basketball team made a late comeback attempt, but couldn't complete the effort as Binghamton earned a 73-64 win at Cotterell Court Wednesday night.

Four Raiders scored in double-figures, led by junior Sean O'Brien's 14 points. Junior Jordan Swopshire and sophomore Malcolm Regisford chipped in 13 apiece, while first-year Will Rayman added 10 points.

Baskets from Regisford and Swopshire got Colgate out to a quick 4-0 lead, but the Bearcats answered with a 22-4 run over the next nine minutes to take an early 22-8 advantage with 10:50 on the clock.  The Raiders held the Bearcats to just two points over the next four minutes and added buckets from sophomore Sam Lindgren, junior Jordan Robertson, O'Brien and Regisford to cut the Bearcat lead to 24-14 with just under seven minutes left in the half.

The Bearcats scored the next five points to extend their advantage to 29-14 at the 5:11 mark, but Colgate was able to rally and close the half on a 12-6 run. A pair of Regisford free throws sparked the run before two Swopshire treys and a tip-in from junior Tom Rivard followed. Senior Nathan Harries banked in a last-second basket to pull the Raiders within 35-26 heading into the locker room.

Colgate spent the first four minutes of the second half on a 9-2 run thanks to five points from Swopshire and two from both Regisford and first-year Will Rayman. The streak pulled Colgate within two of the Bearcats at 37-35 with 16:06 on the clock.

Binghamton answered with a 14-5 run that put the Bearcats back up by 12 at 52-40 with under 11 minutes to play. The Bearcats stayed ahead by double-digits and later used a 9-0 streak to take a 64-44 lead at the 5:30 mark.

A pair of Regisford free throws and an O'Brien three-pointer followed to pull Colgate within 15. The Bearcats held onto at least a 15-point lead until the final three minutes. A jumper from sophomore Dave Krmpotich ignited an 11-1 Colgate run over the next two minutes that saw four points from Rayman and three from O'Brien as Colgate all of the sudden found itself within 67-60 with 58 seconds to play.

The Raiders made baskets down the stretch, but were forced to foul as the Bearcats went 6-for-8 from the charity stripe to seal the 73-64 victory.
