Colgate falls 2-1 in double overtime at Holy Cross

First-year Abby Sotomayor nets her eighth goal of the season

WORCESTER, Mass. – Colgate and Holy Cross took a 1-1 draw to double overtime before the Crusaders scored the game-winner in the 108th minute to down the Raiders 2-1 Saturday night.
 
The Raiders controlled momentum right from the start, getting off three shots and a corner kick in the opening seven minutes before first-year Abby Sotomayor put Colgate on the board in the 10th minute. Sotomayor was able to finish a centering pass from senior Sophi Lederer to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
 
The teams exchanged chances for the remainder of the opening half as Colgate finished the term with an 8-6 shot advantage and retained its 1-0 lead.
 
Colgate first-year keeper Kelly Chiavaro opened the second half with a save, but the Crusaders were able to knot the score at 1-1 in the 58th minute on a goal from Lucy Acuna. The Raiders began to pick up the pace towards the latter half of the second term with three shots and a trio of corner kicks in the final 13 minutes of regulation, but the game was sent into overtime tied at 1-1.
 
First-year Dom DeMarco forced Holy Cross keeper Brooke Holle to make two saves in the first overtime period, but neither team found the back of the net as the game went to a second extra frame. The Crusaders were able to emerge victorious in the 108th minute when Andj Seslija scored on a free kick to cement a 2-1 victory for Holy Cross.
