HAMILTON –
Despite an 11-point halftime deficit, Colgate Men's Basketball battled back in the second half but ultimately fell to visiting Navy 71-68 in overtime.

The Raiders outscored the Mids 37-26 in the second 20 minutes of regulation to force an extra period. Unfortunately a 13-10 scoring edge by Navy in overtime handed the Mids their third straight win.

In a back-and-forth opening 14 minutes, neither team held larger than a five-point advantage throughout. With 6:05 remaining in the half and the game knotted at 17-all, the Mids used a 15-4 run to close out the period and take a 32-21 lead into the break. At halftime Navy was riding an 8-0 run.

It was then a 42-33 Mids lead midway through the second half. But Colgate wouldn't go down that easy.

It took some time but the Raiders used a 13-0 run over nearly 3½ minutes to pull in front 46-42 with eight minutes remaining in regulation. Jordan Swopshire drained back-to-back 3-pointers during that stretch.

Navy would answer and rally to pull back in front 56-55 after Will Kelly finished off an and-1 with 2:49 left.

Both teams went cold for the next two minutes until Tom Rivard drained a 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining, awarding Colgate the 58-56 edge. Unfortunately Tim Abruzzo's floater 10 seconds later tied the score and ultimately sent the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Navy took a 67-61 advantage with 38 seconds to play but a 7-2 Raiders run over the next 30 seconds pulled Colgate to within 69-68. After the Raiders couldn't come up with the steal they were forced to foul. The Mids hit both free throws and Colgate was left with six seconds for one final attempt at knotting the score. The Raiders found Swopshire in the corner but Kelly's career-tying eighth block of the game ended any Colgate hopes of tying the contest.

Austin Tillotson continued his double-figure scoring streak with a season-high 21 points. Rivard and Sean O'Brien followed with 13 points each, while Swopshire registered his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Colgate is back in action Wednesday when Army West Point comes to town for a 7 p.m. game on Cotterell Court. Live stats and video are available at the start.

Won-Lost Records
• Navy shifts its overall record to 12-5 with a 3-1 mark in Patriot League play.
• Colgate slants to 6-9 and 2-2, respectively.

How It Happened
• Colgate saw O'Brien start the contest with his second straight leadoff 3-pointer to hand the hosts the early edge.
• Navy would answer with a layup before the two teams went back-and-forth over the next 12 minutes, with neither program holding larger than a five-point advantage.
• With the score knotted at 17-17, the Mids sparked a 15-4 run over the final 6:05 of the half to take a 32-21 lead into the break. Navy also rode an 8-0 run to finish the period.
• The Mids still held a comfortable 42-33 edge with 11:31 to play but Colgate used a 16-2 run over 4½ minutes to pull in front 49-44. During that stretch, the Raiders saw Swopshire hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Colgate also drained three treys on three consecutive possessions when Tillotson followed Swopshire with one of his own.
• Unfortunately, Navy would rally back and an and-1 from Kelly handed the visitors the 56-55 edge with 2:49 remaining.
• Neither team scored over the next two minutes until Rivard gave Colgate back the lead following a make from downtown with 35 seconds to play.
• Again, the Mids would respond and hit a floater in the paint with 24 ticks remaining on the clock.
• Colgate had a look at the game-winner following a 3-point attempt from Rivard but his shot rattled in and out, forcing the game into overtime.
• Navy controlled much of the extra period and extended the lead to 67-61 with 38 seconds remaining.
• The Raiders would fight until the end though sparking a 7-2 run over the next 30 seconds to pull within 69-68.
• Colgate was forced to foul after it couldn't come up with the steal. Navy converted on both free throw attempts but left the Raiders with six seconds to try for one last Hail Mary.
• The Raiders found Swopshire in the corner but at the last second Navy's Kelly blocked his attempt and the shot fell short.
