Raiders Open Fall Slate at Bucknell Quad

Jacob Hirschberg and Dean Koman capture B Doubles Flight Title to Highlight Raiders Opening Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa.
– Colgate Men's Tennis opened the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule this past weekend with an appearance in the Bucknell Quad Tournament at the Bucknell Tennis Courts.
 
The pairing of juniors Jake Hirschberg and Dean Koman highlighted the Raiders season-opening weekend, capturing the B Doubles flight. Koman and senior Tom Haile both had a productive tournament in singles play, with each advancing to the semifinals of the C Singles draw.
 
Singles Highlights
- Senior Tom Haile and junior Dean Koman both advanced to the C Singles semifinals. Haile post 6-2, 6-1 win over Loyola's Brett Shriver in the first round and followed that effort with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Mount St. Mary's Peter Landis. Koman rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (13-11) decision over Loyola's CJ Cash in the first round and defeated Bucknell's Andrei Vitluc in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 3-6, (10-5).
- Senior Nick Laub advanced to the finals of the A Singles backdraw, recording victories over Loyola's Reid Burch (7-6, 7-5) and Jordan Kutchta (7-6, 6-4). Laub fell to Concordia's Alessandro Evangelisti in the backdraw final, 6-4, 6-1.
- Junior Bobby Alter won his opening round match in A Singles, defeating Concordia's Jul Mao in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
- Newcomer Noah Rosenblat picked up his first collegiate victory, capturing a 6-2, 6-4 win over Loyola's Tyler Blessing in B Singles competition.
 
Doubles Highlights
- Hirschberg and Koman captured the B Doubles crown, knocking off Concordia's Cook and Montegiorgi (8-4), Loyola's Shanbron and Bejan (8-2) and Mount St. Mary's Salomon and McNutty (8-5) on their way to the crown.
- Senior Mark Pronchick and sophomore Anthony DeRose advanced to the semifinals of the A Doubles draw, defeating Kane and Vitluc of Bucknell (8-3) in the first round and Loyola's Jones/Shriver in second round action (8-7).
