Raiders Open DU/Pitt Invitational Saturday

Colgate Opened the Second Weekend of the Season with Matches Against Pittsburgh and Youngstown State

PITTSBURGH – Colgate Volleyball opened the Duquesne/Pitt Invitational with a pair of matches against co-host Pittsburgh and Youngstown Saturday.
 
The Raiders suffered a pair of setbacks during the doubleheader, falling to the Panthers, 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to the Penguins.

- Pittsburgh never trailed in the match, breaking open a close first set with a 5-1 spurt midway through the frame to pull away and record a 25-17 victory.
- The Panthers carried their momentum into the next two sets, posting wins of 25-10 and 25-13 in the second and third stanzas to earn the sweep.

- Junior Kathleen Harris led the Raiders with six kills. Newcomers Amanda Smith and Jaelah Hutchison chipped in four and three spikes, respectively.

- The Penguins were able to claim the pivotal frame, using three straight kills to post a 25-22 victory and take a 2-1 lead.
- Youngstown State was able to close out the match in the fourth set, rattling off six unanswered points midway through the frame to stretch a 14-13 lead into a 20-13 cushion on its way to a 25-17 decision and the match.

- Harris paced the Raiders with 14 kills and newcomer Jaelah Hutchison added 12 to give the Raiders two players with double-digit kills.
- Smith handed out a team-high 36 assists and chipped in 11 digs for her second double-double of the season.
- Harris also pitched in 11 digs to record her third double-double of the campaign.
- Sophomore Elena Simpson finished with 14 digs to lead three players in double figures.
