HAMILTON  –
Jessica Gardiner recorded Colgate field hockey's lone goal but it wasn't enough to spark a Raider victory here Saturday afternoon.

Colgate dropped a 3-1 decision to Lock Haven but not without a fight. The visitors tallied a goal late in the first half and early in the second to create a two-goal lead. The Raiders responded strong, though, and cut the edge in half when Gardiner found the back of the goal in the 52nd minute.

Gardiner played in a quality penalty corner, where the Raiders worked the ball around the circle. Katie Connors eventually found an opening sliding it back over to Gardiner, who had dropped in toward the far post. Gardiner saw her chance and fired a one-timed shot past the Lock Haven goalie to pull her team within one. Both the goal and assist were Gardiner's and Connors' first of the year, respectively.20470

Unfortunately five minutes later the Bald Eagles added an insurance marker and held on for the 3-1 victory.

Maria Krull had a solid performance between the pipes for the Raiders pushing aside a career-high 19 shots. Two of the sophomore's goal-saving stops included a diving save on a shot from Alyscia Smith and a glove save on an attempt from Tamia Roach.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they play host to Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Tyler's Field. Live video and stats will be available at the start.

Straight From The Source
• Head Coach Cathy Foto (on her team's performance in the game): "We've been the road warrior for the last three weekends, including preseason, and we were excited to play at home. Whenever you get to put the home jersey on and come to Tyler's Field and play in front of the home crowd it's great. "

"We've asked a lot of the kids this week in terms of our defensive organization and I thought we did a pretty good job at times. We are still looking to be as consistent as we can be. But certainly getting a goal in there and getting it to 2-1 was great. We're just going to get better with every game."
