HAMILTON – Colgate is heading back to the Patriot League Tournament despite dropping two games to first-place Lehigh on Saturday.
The Raiders and Mountain Hawks battled it out in a doubleheader with the visitors ultimately taking both games, 2-0 and 11-0 (5 innings).
The positive from the day, however, was a Bucknell sweep over Boston University. Colgate needed the Bison to take 2-of-3 games from the Terriers in order to make the post season. Fortunately for the Raiders, Bucknell made it easy and swept Boston U. on Saturday to hand Colgate the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
The Raiders and Bison will now go head-to-head on Thursday in a No. 2/No. 3 matchup to kick off the tournament, which will be hosted by Lehigh. Colgate's game that day is slated for a 2:35 p.m. start.
In Saturday's doubleheader from Eaton Street Field,
Marisa Dowling led the Raiders going 1-for-5 on the day. Colgate stranded five base runners as they were shutout for only the second and third time this year. The other shutout the Raiders faced was when they traveled to Tallahassee, Florida, to compete against nationally ranked No. 10 Florida State.
The opening five innings of game one was a pitchers duel as both student-athletes allowed just two base runners in 17 at bats.
Brigit Ieuter and Emily Bausher were in the circle for their respective teams.
Lehigh broke the deadlock in the sixth thanks to a two-out rally, grabbing the 2-0 lead. Colgate tried to answer in the final two innings but was unable to notch the needed hits to pull even.

In the nightcap the Mountain Hawks jumped out to the early lead and never looked back.
Colgate and Lehigh will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday at noon. The day will also mark the last regular season home game for two Raider senior players. Senior day festivities will begin prior to the first pitch.

Straight From The Source•
Colgate head coach Melissa Finley: (on her thoughts from the doubleheader) "We wanted to come out and create our own destiny this weekend. We put everything into that first game and left our hearts out there on the field. We didn't get the outcome we wanted and we had a hard time in game two coming back from that."
"Our team knows what that looks and feels like to come out and take the field, to be prepared to win and to battle. I know our team will come out tomorrow ready to take that win."
