PLN Feature on Walsh
HAMILTON — Colgate men's lacrosse senior captain
Ryan Walsh is wearing jersey No. 22 this year for a very special reason.
Walsh played lacrosse for Long Island's Wantagh High School, and the Wantagh tradition includes a tribute to the No. 22. That was the jersey number worn by Scott DeVerna, a Wantagh boys lacrosse player who died in 1999 at the age of 16.
Wantagh graduates who go on to play collegiate lacrosse hope to wear No. 22 in DeVerna's honor, and Walsh jumped at the chance to change from his No. 43 when Colgate's No. 22 became available this season.
Melanie Pellowski of the Patriot League Network sat down with the Colgate senior captain to find out the story behind No. 22 and its impact on Wantagh graduates.
