Raiders Roll Past Greyhounds Sunday

Colgate uses Potent Offense and Solid Blocking to Earn Season Sweep of Loyola

Baltimore, Md. – Colgate used a balanced and potent attack to cruise to a 3-0 sweep of host Loyola in Patriot League volleyball action Sunday at Reitz Arena.
 
Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins tallied eight kills each to highlight a Raider offense that finished the match with a season-high .372 hitting percentage (38K-6E-86TA). Katie Stansbury chipped in seven spikes while Noel Kennebeck and Jaelah Hutchison finished with five kills each.
 
Hutchison was also effective on the defensive side of the ball for Colgate; recording a season-best nine total blocks (four solo).

Won-Lost Records
- Colgate improved to 11-15 overall and 9-5 in Patriot League play with the sweep.
- Loyola moved to 6-23 and 1-13 with the setback.
 
Turning Point
- After posting 25-9 and 25-17 victories in the first two sets, Colgate trailed 3-1 early in the third frame.
- An attack error by Loyola started a 5-0 spurt that gave the Raiders a 6-3 advantage. The Greyhounds kept within striking distance until Colgate used an 8-4 stretch to build a 19-13 cushion.
- The Raiders expanded its margin to 23-16 later in the frame before Loyola mounted one last attack, rattling off four unanswered points to pull within three, 23-20.
- That would be as close as the Greyhounds would get, as back-to-back kills from Harris and sophomore Lauren Sanderson sent the Raiders to a 25-20 triumph and the match.
 
Key Raider Info
- Colgate combined to post a team hitting percentage of .300 or higher in a match for the sixth time this season. The Raiders are a perfect 6-0 in those contests this season.
- Three players – Kennebeck (.625), Stebbins (.444) and Hutchison (.400) all recorded hitting percentages of .400 or higher for the contest.
- The Raiders improved to 8-0 against the Greyhounds all time with Sunday's victory. Colgate has won 24 of a possible 27 sets against Loyola in their eight matchups.
- Hutchison had a hand in all nine of the Raiders blocks during the contest, finishing with four solo blocks and five block assists.
- Jackie Macy dished out 19 assists and a team-high three service aces. She also pitched in six digs. 
- Harris and Madison McAndrews paced the team with 10 digs each.

- Colgate hit better than .320 in all three sets, highlighted by a .438 attack clip (15-1-32) for the second set.
- Loyola posted a team hitting percentage of .169 for the match. The Greyhounds best offensive frame came in the third frame, posting a .250 team attack rate (15-7-32).
- Molly Cichosz led all players with 10 kills for Loyola. Micah Duzey finished with a game-best 14 digs.

"We had a much better match this time versus Loyola.  Jackie set the tone with her serve, which carried into other areas of our game.  Our overall defensive mentality was stronger as well.  We've got to get to work over the next two weeks as we prepare for the Patriot League Tournament."

- Colgate closes out the regular season Nov. 14 when it hosts Lafayette in a 5 p.m. Patriot League match at Cotterell Court.
