Harris, McAndrews Lead Colgate Versus AU

Harris Records Nine Kills, McAndrews Finishes with 17 Digs in Patriot League Semifinal Match Versus Top-Seeded American

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Aleksandra Kazala and Allison Cappellino combined for 28 kills to lead top-seeded American to a 3-0 victory over fourth-seeded Colgate in the first semifinal of the 2015 Patriot League Volleyball Championship Saturday at Bender Arena.
 
Kazala notched 15 spikes and Cappellino added 13 to power an Eagle attack that finished with a .257 hitting percentage for the match (44K-16E-109TA). Monika Smidova dished out 29 assists and added 14 digs for the double-double while Hoakalei Dawson notched 10 digs and pitched in nine assists to finish just shy of a double-double.
 
For Colgate, Kathleen Harris tallied nine kills and Jaelah Hutchison pitched in seven spikes. Madison McAndrews tallied a match-best 17 digs.

- After capturing the first set, 25-19, American found itself down 12-8 after Colgate rattled off five unanswered points to erase an 8-7 deficit.
- The Eagles put an end to the Raiders spurt, using a kill from Cappellino and an attack error by Colgate to ignite an 11-3 spurt that put American in front, 19-15.
- The Raiders tallied two of the next three points to trim the Eagles advantage to three, 20-17.
- American put the set out of reach moments later, scoring three straight points to start at 5-2 spurt that closed out the frame and gave the Eagles a 25-19 decision and a 2-0 lead.

"It's all about playing hard and I thought it we played as hard as we possibly could. American is a really good team with five seniors, they've been here every year, there's a lot of experience in that group. I think we gave them everything we had."
